Use Flowmaps inside Claude

Last updated: October 2026

Connect Claude to Flowmaps and you can plan and build by simply chatting. No commands to remember: Claude looks at your boards, reads the build instructions, builds the feature, and keeps your board up to date. It works in the Claude app (web, desktop and mobile) and in Claude Code.

Claude app or Claude Code?

Claude app (web, desktop, phone)Claude Code (in your project folder)
See your ventures and what's Ready✅✅
Add ideas to a mind map✅✅
Read and explain build instructions✅✅
Write the code and move cards to In Progress and Shipped❌ It can't reach the files on your computer✅

So: plan in the Claude app, build in Claude Code. Ask the Claude app to build something and it tells you the same. Connect both if you can; they use the same Flowmaps account.

Using the Claude desktop app? It has both: a normal chat for planning, and a Code tab (the </> icon, top left) that is Claude Code. Build from the Code tab.

What you can ask

  • "What can I build from Flowmaps?" Claude shows the features that are Ready or being built.
  • "Build the sign-up feature." (in Claude Code) Claude fetches its build instructions, moves it to In Progress, and starts building in your project.
  • "It works, finish it." (in Claude Code) Claude adds the work to your main project (after asking) and moves the feature to Shipped.
  • "Add push notifications as an idea to my LayerloopsData mind map." A new card appears on your mind map. If it touches something risky, like payments or personal data, it gets a flag.

What can I build from Flowmaps?

In Pawstep, Customers pay in the app is ready. It has a security flag: let Stripe handle card details. Shall I build it?

Connect the Claude app (once)

  1. In Flowmaps, open Settings → Use Flowmaps inside Claude and copy the address (https://flowmaps.app/api/mcp).
  2. In Claude (claude.ai or the desktop app), open Settings → Connectors and click Add custom connector. Name it Flowmaps, paste the address and click Add.
  3. Click Connect. Flowmaps opens in your browser: check that it's your account and click Allow Claude.
  4. Start a new chat and ask: "What can I build from Flowmaps?"

Once it's connected, it also works in the Claude mobile app.

Connect Claude Code (once)

Using the Code tab in the Claude desktop app, or signed in to Claude Code with the same Claude account you connected above? Then Flowmaps is usually there already: type /mcp in Claude Code and look for Flowmaps. If it's listed as connected, skip this section.

  1. Paste this in a terminal and press Enter (or paste it in a Claude Code chat with "Please run this command:" in front): claude mcp add --scope user --transport http flowmaps https://flowmaps.app/api/mcp
  2. Start Claude Code, type /mcp, pick flowmaps and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens Flowmaps: click Allow Claude.
  3. Ask: "What can I build from Flowmaps?"

Build your first feature

Building happens on your own computer, in a folder for your project. You set this up once per project:

  1. Make a folder for your project, for example Documents/my-app. It can be empty: Claude Code fills it with your app.
  2. Open it in Claude Code. Easiest: in the Claude desktop app, click the Code tab (</>, top left) and choose your folder. Already use VS Code? Install the Claude Code extension, open the folder (File → Open Folder) and sign in with the same Claude account.
  3. Check that Flowmaps is there: type /mcp. Not listed? Follow Connect Claude Code above.
  4. Ask: "Build Owners can sign up from Flowmaps", with the name of your Ready feature. The Setup guide has this sentence ready to copy. Ask in the Code tab, not a normal chat: a chat can't reach your files.

Claude Code fetches the build instructions, moves the card to In Progress, and starts building. In an empty folder it first sets up the project, and it may ask to turn on git (a history of your changes): say yes, so every feature is kept separate. For the next feature, open the same folder and ask again.

Keep a safe copy of everything you build: Save your work on GitHub shows how, step by step, including saving every night by itself.

What Claude can and can't do

When you click Allow Claude, Claude can work with the ventures in every workspace where you're an Owner or Editor: see what's Ready, read build instructions and skills, add ideas, and move features to In Progress and Shipped. It can't see your API key, delete anything or change your team.

Other AI tools without a Connect button can use an access token instead: Settings → Use Flowmaps inside Claude → Connecting another AI tool.

Disconnect

Claude appears in Settings → Terminal under connected computers as Claude (MCP). Click Disconnect to remove its access right away. To connect again, click Connect in Claude.

Good to know

  • Claude only sees ventures in your workspaces, through the same secure connection as the flowmaps command. What it does shows up in Activity as via Claude.
  • Claude asks before changing your board, and only marks a feature Shipped after you've confirmed it works.
  • Flags are automatic warnings, not legal advice.

Example

You: What can I build from Flowmaps?

Claude: In LayerloopsData, "Users sign up and save credit cards" (v0.2.0) is ready. Shall I build it?

You: Yes.

Claude: I'll work on a separate copy of your project (branch flowmaps/v0.2.0-users-sign-up-and-save-credit-cards) and move the feature to In Progress. First the database part…
